Koh Samui, Thailand
Though you may want to island hop when venturing to Thailand, you will find everything beautiful, relaxing, tasty and adventurous right here on Koh Samui. For many years it was mysterious and cut off from the mainland, but word spread fast amongst the hippie backpacking community about the unspoiled tropical island that is now sparking interest in today’s frequent travelers, scuba diving enthusiasts, honeymooners and those simply looking for a beautiful beach vacation.
At its core is a dense tropical jungle with dramatic waterfalls and secret lagoons, while its palm-fringed coast is wrapped in a ribbon of pristine white sand. In fact, it is one of the “quieter” islands, but plays homage to such breathtaking waterfalls that many flock here from its surrounding islands for a day trip. A coral reef rich in marine life provides a haven for swimming during the day, and its vacant beaches near nightfall make it perfect for watching a sunset in peace and harmony.
To really dive into the spirit of Koh Samui, you can head to Chaweng for its stylish nightclubs and bars, visit the Wat Khunaram to see an active Buddhist temple (and mummified monk), leave an offering at a spirit house or hire a luxury catamaran.
The climate on Koh Samui comes in three distinct seasons; dry, hot and rainy. You can really enjoy optimum weather conditions between December and August, but its climate is consistently warm all year-round.
Vacationers from cooler temperature countries will be amazed to find that the one thing you will rarely feel here is cold.
